With 80 years of leadership experience in helping businesses transform, IBM offers a wide range of consulting services, deep industry solutions and new technologies that enable utility companies to take advantage of business innovation.

Over the years IBM has invested significantly in understanding the challenges facing water globally and we are passionate about sustainability. In 2008, as part of our Global Innovation Outlook study on water, IBM brought together hundreds of the world's leading water management experts - scientists, academics, businesses and governments - to share knowledge and combine resources.

IBM also has a number of centres of excellence for water management, looking into areas such as leakage and analytics.

We want to continue our journey in gaining a deep understanding of the challenges our clients face. That is why we had no hesitation in partnering with Water UK.

It is essential that we forge these partnerships to get us close to the core. Working with members in partnership to find answers.

With advances in technology - sophisticated sensor networks, smart meters, deep computing and analytics - we can be smarter about how we manage our planet's water.

"This is an incredibly important partnership for IBM as we embark on a decade of 'smart' where we will see the world's systems becoming instrumented, interconnected and intelligent, allowing us to do things that were once unthinkable. "For example, energy and utility companies are finding more efficient ways to generate and distribute power and water. Cities are deploying traffic solutions to help society save time and money. Consumer products companies are using intelligence to make and deliver better quality products, faster and for less money. Health care systems are using information to reduce errors, lower costs and deliver more personalised care. "And this is only the beginning."
